MoleScope has received approval from Health Canada, is FDA registered as a Class 1 medical device in the U.S., and has received the CE Mark in the EU. The company is initiating an early adopter program with qualified dermatologists and receiving strong interest from potential distributors and channel partners throughout the world.
The product was introduced at the 23rd World Congress of Dermatology, which was held in Vancouver, Canada. Dr. Sadeghi’s initial interests towards medical image analysis originated from her undergraduate studies in computer vision applications in intelligent traffic control. After completing her doctoral studies in SFU’s Medical Image Analysis lab program, and being a Skin Research Training Center CIHR Scholar for three years, she worked closely with the BC Cancer Agency and Skin Care Center. Her research was focused on developing programs that use computer visioning of dermoscopic images to identify and analyze potentially malignant skin lesions.
Dr. Sadeghi won recognition during the research and development phase of MoleScope, winning Wavefront’sWireless Prize in the BCIC-New Ventures Competition in 2013, along with a prize in the Plug & Play Silicon Valley competition in Vancouver in July 2014.
Dr. Sadeghi has received numerous other awards for her research, including the Gold award at the World Congress of Dermatology in Seoul, Korea, the Silver Medal for ACM Student Research Competition from Microsoft Research, and the Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology.
